Peekay

Today one of America’s FIFA CGS World Finalists is featured in the State of Maine’s largestnewspaper: The Portland Press Herald. In the article Nicholas “Peekay” DePalmer describes his gaming journey and his experiences this summer in Los Angeles, California.

DePalmer, 23, is a professional gamer, or as some might say a cyber athlete. He`s a member of the Carolina Core, one of six 10-man teams in the Championship Gaming Series, one of a growing number of professional gaming leagues in the U.S. and around the world.

DePalmer is part of a generation raised in a world where video games have moved from the fringe to the mainstream, and in the process made the idea of getting paid to play games you enjoy a reality.

But as the world of eSports and competitive gaming expands, it`s experiencing pains similar to that of other professional sports in their early days, leaving gamers with a mix of excitement and uncertainty.

“Gaming is huge, I always knew it was,“ he said. “I`m excited to be doing this as a job, being marketed as a pro gamer.“

So if DePalmer`s a bit cocky at times, it`s like Muhammad Ali once said, “It`s not bragging if you can back it up.“

DePalmer, who goes by the gamer alias “Peekay,“ is currently living in Portland, recently back from Orlando, where he took part in the World Championship Gaming United States Finals.
